Gatherings of fall
favorites to draw customers into your department.
These three design ideas are perfect for letting your shoppers
know autumn is in the air in your corner of the store, whether
there happens to be a chill outside or not. With a bit of
creativity, gourds—either fresh or permanent—can be fashioned
into great seasonal containers and accents. Take a look at the
following design ideas and follow our how-to directions, or
modify these ideas to fit your clientele even better!
HOW-TO:
Insert three wood
picks into the bottom of a permanent gourd, and place the
gourd into floral foam in a weathered pot. Arrange fresh
flowers around the edge of the pot.
MATERIALS:
Permanent gourds from Natural Decorations, Inc. (NDI);
wood picks from W.J. Cowee; Sedum , chinaberries, Rudbeckia,
statice, floral foam and weathered rose pots from favorite
suppliers.

HOW-TO:
Cut off the top of a
carvable permanent pumpkin, and place floral foam into the
new “container.” Arrange flowers and grasses, and attach a
wood pick to the top of the pumpkin lid so it can be placed
into the design. A fresh pumpkin could also be used for this
design.
MATERIALS:
Carvable pumpkin from Hernando Moss, Inc.; roses,
safflowers, yarrow, wild grasses and floral foam from
favorite suppliers.

HOW-TO:
Bore a hole into each
gourd with an apple corer, being careful to make the holes
just large enough to contain large water tubes.
MATERIALS:
Glass tube vases from Andy Designs, Ltd.; gourds, crucifix
orchids (Epidendrum), Chinese lantern lilies (Sandersonia)
and miniature callas (Zantedeschia) from favorite suppliers.
