                                                                                                         “I can do a lot in a small amount of time,” she
                                                                                                         affirms. “I work pretty quickly.”

                                                                                                            Other team members are trained in basic
                                                                                                         design and wrapping so they can help if Mor-
                                                                                                         gan is out of the store when customers need
                                                                                                         services. “We do have someone who always
                                                                                                         can take care of them,” she describes.

                                                                                                            Shoppers are enthusiastic about the
                                                                                                         department’s focus on customer care and
                                                                                                         high-quality products and have become
                                                                                                         loyal customers, Morgan reveals. “We’ve had
                                                                                                         a great response. Everybody’s been really
                                                                                                         happy,” she shares. “The department went
                                                                                                         from bare bones when I took over, and now
                                                                                                         it’s becoming a full-fledged operation. We can
                                                                                                         cater to any needs.”

                                                                                                            Morgan Gloss, lead floral spe-

                                                                                                         in Memphis, Tenn., stocks locally
                                                                                                         grown products when they are in
                                                                                                         season and also orders florals from
                                                                                                         the store’s primary suppler, Asso-
                                                                                                         ciated Wholesale Grocers. Most
                                                                                                         of the department’s items are fresh,
                                                                                                         with few hard goods in the mix.

                                                                                                         TOP SELLER Mixed bouquets are the
                                                                                                         department’s best sellers. “Our
                                                                                                         customers are more convenience
                                                                                                         shoppers, so they’ll pop in and grab
                                                                                                         bouquets,” Morgan describes. Pric-
                                                                                                         es range from $3.99 to $24.99.

                                                                                                         ARRANGEMENTS Lush and full Mason
                                                                                                         jar designs are a close second
                                                                                                         to mixed bouquets in customer
                                                                                                         popularity. Prices depend on the
                                                                                                         flowers used, with the average cost
                                                                                                         at $14.99.

                                                                                                         BUNCHES The department keeps a
                                                                                                         large selection of consumer bunches
                                                                                                         on hand. Favorite blooms include
                                                                                                         roses, Gerberas and spray mums.

                                                                                                         PLANTS Miss Cordelia’s offers a
                                                                                                         wide range of plants and terrariums.
                                                                                                         Succulents and spring bulbs are
                                                                                                         good sellers.

                                                                                                         BIRDHOUSES Memphis-themed
                                                                                                         birdhouses, handmade by a local
                                                                                                         craftsman, are popular, Morgan
                                                                                                         shares. “They do especially well for
                                                                                                         Christmas,” she describes. Prices
                                                                                                         range from $12 to $20. sf
