INDUSTRY ICON PASSES
It is with profound sadness that we report that Tom Butler, AAF, PFCI, Teleflora chairman and longtime floral industry leader, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, August 14. With nearly 50 years’ experience in the floral business, Tom was always an industry authority and visionary.
Since late 2000, Tom served as chairman of Teleflora. Prior to that, Tom was president and CEO of American Floral Services (AFS), a position he held for 15 years (Teleflora acquired AFS in November 2000). Prior to joining AFS, Tom was with Syndicate Sales, and before that, he was with FTD for 13 years, where he held a variety of senior positions, including director of the company's international division.
During his distinguished career, Tom received many awards and accolades, among them:
• Arkansas Florists Association’s Distinguished Service Award, 2003
• SAF’s Paul Ecke Jr. Award, 2002, in recognition of exemplary devotion to profession, industry and community
• Michigan Floral Association’s National Service Award, 1995
• Florida State Florists’ Association’s Hall of Fame Award, 1990
Tom was a native of Detroit, Mich., and graduated from Detroit’s Sacred Heart Seminary in June 1967.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 10 a.m., at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City. Interment will take place later in Salt Lake City.
