Spending is expected to be up for Father’s Day, which is good news for florists and garden centers that offer a selection of gardening tools and other outdoor merchandise. According to the National Retail Federation’s (NRF) 2013 Father’s Day spending survey, conducted by BIGinsight, the average person will shell out $119.84 on gifts this year, up 2.3 percent from $117.14 last year. Home-improvement and gardening tools are among the popular gifts, with the average person buying these items expected to spend $46.58 on them ($755 million nationwide).
