PANTONE ANNOUNCES “COLOR OF THE YEAR”
According to color company Pantone LLC, “Emerald” (Pantone 17-5641) is the official “Color of the Year” for 2013.
A gorgeous jewel and a radiant hue, “Emerald” is “sophisticated and luxurious” and may reflect consumers’ desire to return to a more indulgent way of life than most have lived for the past several years.
“Symbolically,” noted Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, “Emerald brings a sense of clarity, renewal and rejuvenation, which is so important in today’s complex world.”
Leatrice also noted in a press release that the color, which she described as “powerful and universally appealing,” translates to both fashion and home interiors, so it’s likely to gain quick adoption during the coming year. Helping to ensure the color’s success in the home, Pantone is partnering exclusively with JCPenney to supply Pantone-branded pillows, towels and accessories in “Emerald.”
According to Pantone’s press release, the color of the year is chosen after significant research on color influences. “Pantone combs the world looking for color influences. This can include the entertainment industry and films that are in production, traveling art collections, hot new artists, popular travel destinations and other socioeconomic conditions. Influences may also stem from technology, availability of new textures and effects that impact color, and even upcoming sports events that capture worldwide attention.”
